Calculate GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive prices and understand the basic CGST, SGST, and IGST split.

GST added to a base price

For a GST-exclusive price, multiply the base amount by the GST rate and divide by 100. Add that tax to the base amount to get the invoice total. For example, 18% GST on ₹1,000 is ₹180, producing a total of ₹1,180.

Reverse-calculate an inclusive price

When the listed amount already includes GST, divide the total by one plus the GST rate as a decimal. At 18%, a ₹1,180 inclusive amount has a ₹1,000 base and ₹180 tax.

In an intra-state transaction, GST is generally split between CGST and SGST. IGST generally applies to inter-state supplies. Classification and place-of-supply rules can be more complex than the arithmetic.

Check the correct rate

GST rates depend on the product or service classification and can change. Use the calculator for arithmetic, then verify the applicable rate and tax treatment from an official source or qualified tax professional.
